Oktoberfest 2012 German Language Guide: Behind the Scenes

With Oktoberfest in full swing and as a team full of people that are passionate about travel, foreign languages, and, well…beer, we decided a great way to demonstrate the potential of VerbalizeIt technology would be to create a guide containing all of the German statements you’d need to know to have a fantastic time at Oktoberfest.

The result was VerbalizeIt’s first language guide: Oktoberfest 2012.  Even if you’re not heading to Munich for Oktoberfest, you should definitely check it out, you never know when you might need to tell a German woman that she’s beautiful, or shout “Let’s ride the rollercoaster!” in German.

How’d we do it?

We started by figuring out what phrases you’d most likely need to know while traveling to Germany for Oktoberfest (this was a fun adventure in Googling and we are now all experts in all-things Oktoberfest).

Next we used the VerbalizeIt Translation API to get English text translated into German text and audio.

The last and final step was to code up a simple website featuring the English text, German text, and German audio. The result is our Oktoberfest 2012 German Language Guide

It’s worth noting that VerbalizeIt does support direct text-to-audio translation but we wanted to make sure and have both the German text and audio for everyone to see.

We hope you enjoy our very first language guide!  What future guides would you like to see?
