I grew up in the multicultural metropolis of the San Francisco Bay Area, where I began learning Spanish at the age of seven. I have lived and traveled extensively in Latin America, including having spent a year studying at the University of Chile in Santiago, Chile, where I became truly fluent in Spanish. In 2001, I earned my BA in Language Studies from the University of California at Santa Cruz and thereafter have worked steadily as a translator and interpreter. In 2004, I received an MA in Literary Translation from the University of East Anglia in Norwich, UK, and went on to earn a Certificate in Legal/Court Interpreting from San Francisco State University in 2006. I have extensive experience in the medical field, having freelanced as a medical interpreter in the San Francisco Bay Area for five years and having served as a full-time interpreter at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center, in Oakland, California between 2007 and 2008. Thereafter, family matters brought me to Washington State, where I became certified in court, medical, and social services interpreting. I currently work as a freelance interpreter, both in-person and over the phone. I am looking to apply my broad linguistic and cultural knowledge, my medical and legal interpreting expertise, and my training in translation, to further expand into the field of written translation.
