I was born in Turkey but raised in Germany, lived there for over 24 years, where I completed my formal education. Associates of Applied Science degree in Foreign languages and secretarial science from an accredited institution in Germany. I have been residing in the USA for 15 years now. Practice & knowledge with the European as well as US markets. Fluent in English, German, Turkish and basic French skills. Excellent customer service representative. Currently employed at the airport with Lufthansa airlines as a check-in agent, where I daily assist when language barriers are encountered by foreign passengers. I've been writing since I was 15 (that was 1994), few of those writings were published back at the time.
Between 6th grade and 11th grade I have studied English grammer, spoken English and American literature, along with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry classes, which were also taught in English.
I've studied Cinema TV at Dokuz Eylul University Fine Arts Faculty, I left the school and don't have a Bachelors Degree. Yet, I had an Associates Degree in Radio and TV Production prior to this.
Majority of my work after university is in the field of cinema, at various stages of filmmaking, I have worked in several feature films and few TV series. In 2006 I started working with video, documented Istanbul music scene (a limited selection is online at youtube/peyotetv), created production documentaries for films and worked as a resident vj in Istanbul music venue Peyote, created live cinema and live programming shows (limited extracts can be seen at vimeo/nerede).
I started working on translation projects in 2015. Published books that I have translated or co-translated are;
-The Coming Fin de Siècle. The Application of Durkheim's Sociology to Modernity and Postmodernism by Stjepan G. Mestrovic; [co-translated]
-Beware of Small States: Lebanon, Battleground of the Middle East by David Hirst; [uncredited]
-Soviet Post-punk: Nochnoy Prospekt and its Philosophical Interpretation by Can Batukan.
Since 2015 I have translated or proofread;
60k words in Philosophy, 80k words in Sociology and Cultural Studies, 50k words in Legal Agreements and Business Reports, 50k words in Literature, 20k words in Medical Sciences; also 6000 video minutes of Subtitling and Dubbing Scripts for feature films, tv series and Netflix shows;

My name is Ayten Caliskan. I was born in Turkey in 1983 and lived there until 2008 when I moved to USA. I started my studies in English and Linguistics in 1994 and started working as a English to Turkish and Turkish to English translator in 2002. Since then, I have been a part of many translation, localization and interpretation projects which also includes the opportunity of working as a Localization Project Manager of a prestigious translation/localization company in Istanbul, Turkey.
